Travelling Abroad

travelling during studies:

The University encourages all students to remain in the UK during their teaching, however we understand that in emergency circumstances you may occassionally need to leave for short periods of time. If you need request a leave of absence, please follow the instructions below.

If you are going to be overseas for less than 2 weeks then there is no paperwork for you to fill in, however you will need to speak with your Module Tutors to ensure that your travel does not clash with any deadlines. If your travel DOES clash with a deadline, you will need to ensure that you will still be able to meet it.

If you are going to be overseas for between 2 weeks – 1 month you would need to complete the Absence Request Form and send it through to the Student Advice Centre (ASKBALstudentadvice@dmu.ac.uk). You would also need to explain how you will be keeping up with your studies while you are away. We will check that we have all of the information we need to make a decison and, if so, will then ask your Programme Leader if you have permission to travel. If your Programme Leader agrees, you will have permission to travel.

Please note that the above timescales include travel days, and any days you need to spend in isolation as a result of your travel.

It is also important to note that absence requests are not guaranteed to be accepted, and we would advise that you do not book tickets to travel until this has been agreed.

An approved Absence Request Form is not the same as an extension. If you have deadlines or exams within the approved absence period, you will still need to complete these.

How to Complete The Form

Please read this information carefully, BEFORE completing the request form, as an incorrectly, or partially completed, form may lead to your request being rejected.
