Unfortunately, we wouldn’t be able to provide you with this type of letter.

If you finished your current year or degree and require a transcript please refer to the Transcripts section from the FAQ menu.

Unfortunately, we can’t provide you with an individual standalone letter stating your GPA. You can see your overall mark (which is your GPA) on the HEAR transcript under “overall classification”. You can use your HEAR transcript if you need it to provide it to the university and/or organization.

Why can’t we provide a separate document? This is because we are prohibited from providing documents that are separate to official documents such as a HEAR transcript. Everything on the official documents is final.

We can however confirm that your grade on the HEAR report is official and final via an email to the university and/or organization. You can ask the university and/ organization to get in touch directly with us.

Apologies for any inconvenience. As an institution and a university, we need to follow regulations, procedures and policies to be fair and reliable to all of our students and members of staff.

We understand that facing a failed re-sit can be challenging. If you are a master’s student typically, there isn’t a second opportunity for re-sits as per regulations – Academic regulations and recognition of prior learning (dmu.ac.uk). However, there are exceptional cases where a second re-sit may be considered, especially in extenuating and serious circumstances.

If you have such circumstances, please email us explaining what has affected you and we will look into. Attach any relevant evidence in your email, such as medical records.

For information on what qualifies as difficult circumstances, refer to the Difficult Circumstances section in the FAQs. Please note that these circumstances must have directly affected your ability to perform well in your studies. If they don’t affect your studies directly, we won’t consider those. Please note that we will always ask for evidence. Please note we can’t guarantee that your request will be considered even if your circumstances affected your studies as we don’t make that decision. The decision for majority of the time will be made by Associate Professor for Student Experience and/or Associate Dean Academic as well as other senior member of staff.

If you didn’t have any extenuating circumstances your only options can be found below:

1. Academic appeal – If you disagree with your mark and feel that your mark/s  should be different, you would be welcome to submit an appeal through the academic support office – Appeals (dmu.ac.uk). You would need to do this within 15 working days of the official results being made available to you.

We would take your average percentage across your final year, and if this is in the highest band you would be eligible for the consideration band.

So if, for example, you achieved an overall mark of 68%, but your final year marks were:

  • Module 1 – 40%
  • Module 2 – 90%
  • Module 3 – 90%
  • Module 4 – 90%

Average over the final year – 77%

The average mark would be within the next classification band, so we would award you the higher grade.

Please see the breakdown below:

1.Final Year Average:

You took four modules in your final year and got these grades:

  • Module 1: 40%
  • Module 2: 90%
  • Module 3: 90%
  • Module 4: 90%

To find your average grade for the final year, we add all these percentages together and then divide by the number of modules. So:

2.Checking for Higher Classification:

Your overall average mark across all years of study is 68%.
We use classification bands to determine your degree classification (like First Class, Second Class, etc.). For example:

  • First Class: 70% and above
  • Upper Second Class (2:1): 60% – 69%
  • Lower Second Class (2:2): 50% – 59%
  • Third Class: 40% – 49%

3.Eligibility for a Higher Grade:

  • If your final year average (77%) falls into a higher band than your overall average (68%), you can be considered for that higher classification.
  • In your case, 77% falls into the First Class band, which is higher than your overall average band (Upper Second Class).
  • So, even though your overall average is 68% (Upper Second Class), because your final year average is 77% (First Class), the university can consider awarding you a First Class degree.

In short, your final year average of 77% is high enough to push you into the First Class band, which means you could get a First Class degree even if your overall average is a bit lower.

You can submit your assignment online, but you can’t take your exams online unless it’s an online test. If your re-sit is on campus you have to attend your re-sit on campus and can’t submit your exam online in any form.

If you have extenuating circumstances such as a medical condition please contact us and we will discuss your options, however we can’t guarantee that you will be allowed to take your re-sit online.

If you cannot complete your exam on that day you may wish to apply for a deferral.

You can find information about deferrals here – Deferrals – ASK BAL De Montfort University (dmu.ac.uk)

Understanding Extensions and Deferrals

Extension:

Purpose: An extension gives you a short amount of extra time to submit your work after the original submission deadline.

Deadline: Up to 24 hours prior to the submission deadline

Duration: Up to 5 days after the original deadline.

Applicability: You cannot apply for an extension for exams.

Decision Time: The decision about your extension application typically takes up to 5 working days.

Deferral:

Purpose: A deferral provides a longer amount of extra time to submit your work.

Deadline: Up to 10 working days after the submission deadline

Duration: The specific time frame can vary. For example, if you apply for a deferral in May, you might be given until August to submit your work. Always wait for the outcome letter to confirm the exact duration you have been given.

Applicability: You can apply for a deferral for both assignments and exams.

Decision Time: The decision about your deferral application usually takes around 15 working days (approximately 3 weeks).

Summary:

Extensions are for short-term delays (up to 5 days) and not applicable to exams.

Deferrals provide more extended time and can be applied to both assignments and exams, with a longer decision time of around 3 weeks.

Both extensions and deferrals are reviewed based on the circumstances of the student that needs to be proved with evidence.

Evidence is required to be submitted on the request form in a form of a document such as a  pdf, word, jpeg. It can be any kind of document, however it needs to be relevant to your circumstances.

This depends on whether you had a group mark for a presentation or whether you were assessed individually.  If you were assessed individually you would apply for an extension, if you were marked as a group and your presence wasn’t necessary for the presentation you don’t have to apply for a extension as you will have the same mark on the learning zone as the rest of the group.

If you would like to apply for a deferral, please click on the link below.

Deferrals – ASK BAL De Montfort University (dmu.ac.uk)

Here you will find information about deferrals, and access the Deferral Request form.

Please ensure you read this information before applying.

You will receive an outcome to your deferral application within 2-3 weeks.

If you have deferred your assignment and/or exams and you submit/sit them in August your graduation will be postponed until January / February following year (e.g., deferrals in August 2024 – graduation postponed until January / February).

Items get lost sometimes in delivery and this is out of our control.

It is best if you to send an email to your administration team to find out what some of the details are not appearing on your hear transcript as they are responsible for creating HEAR transcripts.

They will be able to check the details and update the HEAR accordingly.

Please see the administration team details on our website – Contact – ASK BAL De Montfort University (dmu.ac.uk).

Please make sure to send an email to only one administration team responsible for your programme not all of them. Multiple emails will be ignored.

If you are unsure which administration team is responsible for your programme please contact us and we will forward your query to the relevant administration team.

What can you do: (this applies when you want to share with an organization/company if you are applying for a job, or if you want to send it to another university for further studies such as postgraduate/PhD etc.):

1.Share your HEAR transcript via the Digitary Core website. You should be able to view your HEAR transcript on Digitary Core – Digitary CORE. 3. Alternatively, you can provide us with the organization/university email, and we will be able to send your transcript with a DMU stamp and email it to the organization/university as a proof of completing your studies.

4. You can download and print it.

You will be able to receive your certificate during your graduation. The enhanced transcript is not the certificate, but it can be used as award letter and an official confirmation that you have completed your degree. You can use it for WES too.

If your university isn’t on the HEAR member list, then there is nothing to worry about. You can provide the Student Advice Centre with the university email (the email that you need the transcript to be send to) , and they will be able to send your HEAR transcript with a DMU stamp and email it to the university as a proof of completing your studies.

I am sorry you have to wait longer than usual for your HEAR transcript. Normally you should have received it by now.

It’s best if you get in touch with your administration team and/ or student advice centre. Please see the administration team details on our website Contact – ASK BAL De Montfort University (dmu.ac.uk)

There are two types of reference that the university can give you.

1. Academic Reference

2. Job Reference

Job Reference:

If you require a reference, we ask that all references are made via Homepage | Higher Education Degree Datacheck (hedd.ac.uk). This is an official verification website for references between a university and an organization. The organization needs to request it via the HEDD website.

Academic Reference:

It’s best to contact your supervisor or a module leader to obtain a reference for your postgraduate studies. This is because academic staff such as your personal tutor, a supervisor or programme/ module leader have more insights into your work throughout the course of your studies at DMU than we do.

They will be able to provide you with a reference that outlines how you progressed and what you achieved as well as highlight other individual achievements. This is why it’s always best to ask an academic staff that knows your academic progress best.

I hope this helps, if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact us.

If all the lecturers that you knew at the time of your enrolment at the university, you can ask our student records team (studentrecords@dmu.ac.uk) to write a factual reference about (this would include grades and attendance). Please note this wouldn’t have as many details as an academic reference.
